Severe Keyboard Input Delay in Dead by Daylight

Status: Under Investigation
Priority:
Critical
Added by: Anonymous on September 4, '26
Assigned to:
Unassigned
Due date:
Reported for:
Actual Result:
WASD keyboard inputs have approximately a 0.5-second delay. The character responds late when pressing movement keys, takes approximately 0.5 seconds to change direction, and can continue moving briefly after the key is released. This makes movement extremely difficult to control. The keyboard works normally in every other game.
Expected Result:
WASD movement should respond immediately when a key is pressed or released. The character should stop immediately when the movement key is released and change direction immediately when another movement key is pressed.
Severity:
Major
Reproducibility:
Always
Platform:
Steam
Additional Notes & Comments:
In the video recording during the first 7 seconds i was activley pressing and using wasd on my keyboard. For the next couple seconds (15 second mark) I let go of wasd and my character kept moving. I also did this for the 15-20 second mark I used wasd and the 20-30 second mark I let go and the character was moving on its own. This js makes the game unbearable while in chase and doing generators.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch Dead by Daylight on PC through Steam, enter a match, and use WASD to move. Hold W and release it, then repeatedly change directions using W → A → D → W. The character responds approximately 0.5 seconds after the keyboard input and can continue moving briefly after the key is released.

Explanation

Summary

(THIS MAKES THE GAME UNPLAYABLE)

I am experiencing severe keyboard input delay in Dead by Daylight on PC/Steam.

The issue started on September 2, 2026 at approximately 6:00 PM. Before this, my keyboard worked normally in Dead by Daylight.

Since then, WASD inputs have approximately a 0.5-second delay.

The problem occurs when:

Pressing WASD
Releasing WASD
Changing directions (for example W → A → D)
Stopping movement

My character continues moving after I release the movement key and takes approximately 0.5 seconds to respond when changing direction.

Steps to reproduce
Launch Dead by Daylight through Steam on Windows.
Enter a match.
Hold W for several seconds.
Release W.
Observe that the character continues moving after W has been released.
Press W → A → D → W repeatedly.
Observe the delay when changing directions.
Expected result

Movement should respond immediately when pressing or releasing WASD, and changing directions should happen immediately.

Actual result

There is approximately a 0.5-second delay when pressing, releasing, and changing WASD directions. The character can continue moving after the key has been released.

Troubleshooting already attempted

I have tested:

V-Sync disabled
Fullscreen mode
Steam Input disabled
Restarting Steam
Restarting Windows
Disconnecting controllers
Testing the keyboard in other games

None of these resolved the problem.

The keyboard works normally in every other game.

Platform: PC / Steam
Input: Keyboard + Mouse
Issue started: September 2, 2026 at approximately 6:00 PM
Frequency: Consistent / happens every time I play

I have attached my Dead by Daylight log file after reproducing the issue.
