Game Crashes with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in Survivor Matches

Status: Open
Priority:
High
Added by: Anonymous on September 2, '26
Assigned to:
Unassigned
Due date:
Reported for:
Actual Result:
The game crashes during Survivor matches with: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xffffffffffffffff Previous crashes also showed: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000008 Windows previously recorded error code 0xc0000005. The crash is registered as a disconnect, causing matchmaking penalties. I have received many 15-minute bans, even more 30-minute bans, and I have already received two 1-hour bans because of these crashes.
Expected Result:
The game should remain stable throughout Survivor matches and should not crash with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. A crash caused by the game should also not result in a matchmaking penalty for the player.
Severity:
Blocker
Reproducibility:
Frequently
Platform:
Windows Store
Additional Notes & Comments:
I have already verified and repaired the game files and completely reinstalled Dead by Daylight. I also restarted my PC, updated my NVIDIA graphics driver, checked my audio drivers, and confirmed through DxDiag that DirectX 12 Ultimate is enabled. I tested fullscreen mode, V-Sync disabled, a 120 FPS limit, lower graphics settings, and avoided Alt-Tabbing and Windows+D while playing. I also tested different Survivors. The crashes have occurred with different Survivors, including Kate Denson and Lara Croft. Most importantly, I have now played at least 10 Killer matches with different Killers, including The Spirit and The Good Guy (Chucky), without experiencing a single crash. So far, the crashes only occur while playing Survivor. This makes me suspect that the issue may be related specifically to Survivor gameplay in the Windows/Xbox WinGDK version. I can provide the full crash reports and Windows Reliability Monitor reports if required. Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch Dead by Daylight through the Xbox app on PC.
  2. Play a match as Survivor.
  3. Play normally without Alt-Tabbing or switching applications.
  4. At an unpredictable point during the match, the game crashes.
  5. The crash can occur at the beginning, middle, or near the end of the match.

Explanation

Dead by Daylight repeatedly crashes with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION when playing as Survivor. So far, the crashes have only occurred in Survivor matches. Killer matches have remained stable.
