Description

The MK 556 is a gas pressure charger with rotary head closure and short gas piston stroke in the caliber 5.56 × 45 mm NATO. It has parallels with the Haenel CR223 civilian self-loading rifle. As standard, it is equipped with 4 NATO rails, to which any accessories can be mounted, so optical visors and also a foldable open visor. The fire selector and safety levers can be operated with both hands; the throttle removal is adjustable for silencer operation. The barrel lengths 408 mm, 368 mm, 318 mm and 266 mm are available.[ 1] The name of the weapon refers to the word M aschinen K arabiner and the caliber used.[ 2] A direct basis of the MK 556 is the Caracal CAR 816 assault rifle from the Haenel parent company Caracal International.[ 3][][4]
